Religious Education at Minterne

Statement of Intent
At Minterne Junior School, we use Kapow Primary’s Religion and Worldviews (R&W) scheme of work to spark pupils’ curiosity and encourage them to become reflective, open-minded learners. We want our children to feel confident asking thoughtful questions, exploring a wide range of beliefs and worldviews, and reflecting on their own values as well as those of others.
Through this scheme, pupils develop an understanding of how religion and worldviews have shaped individual lives, communities and cultures, both in the past and today. It supports our aim to nurture respectful, thoughtful pupils who appreciate diversity and are well prepared to play a positive role in our increasingly diverse society.
Does my child have to attend RE lessons?
RE is a statutory subject in all schools in England, except for those children withdrawn at the request of their parents. (Education Act 2002, section 80). It is parents’ legal right to withdraw their children from Religious Education.
